
Language: 80 minutes a week with 16 units gained per week
Lexia is the program we use for language and reading. They are required to gain 80 minutes a week and 16 units gained each week. Look in the right-hand corner and there will be a circle that states the units gained once your in the program. Click the link below and it will take you to a website explaining how to use Lexia.
Writing: 20-30 minutes a day is recommended
Passages and examples have been attached on google classroom. This includes the prompt, passages, checklists, and examples of what is expected. At this point, students should be able to write a 3-5 paragraph essay. It should take students 2 weeks to complete one. Please start with their opinion.
We will be able to comment on your students writing through google classroom to help the process. Please check for these and have your students make the appropriate changes.
Dinosaur Extinction Opinion Writing Schedule
Prompt:
How did the dinosaurs become extinct? After reading “Rock-Solid Theories,” “Death from Volcanoes?,” and “Possible Theories,” use 1-3 paragraphs to state your opinion on how the dinosaurs became extinct, providing reasons to explain your thinking. Be sure to support your opinion with evidence from the texts.
Day 1-Wednesday March 18th: Analyze the Prompt
-Steps to Analyze:
· Read the prompt aloud
· Highlight the verbs or action words
· Underline the task you are being asked to do
· Circle the question you need to answer
Day 2-Thursday March 19th- Read the passage, annotate, and decide which side you are on. Complete your graphic organizer
Day 3: Friday March 20th- Introduction Paragraph
· Hook- A sentence that will catch your reader’s attention. This can be a cool fact or a question.
· Thesis sentences- This is you restating the prompt. Explain what you are writing about.
· Reasons/Facts- This sentence you are listing your 3 reasons or 3 facts to let your reader know what you will be talking about.
Day 4: Monday March 23rd-Body Paragraph
Topic sentences that states your main idea for that paragraph. It will be whatever they wrote in the main boxes of your graphic organizer. Followed by each reason or detail (at least 3) and one will be your quote and elaboration, and conclusion.

Day 5: Tuesday March 24th-Conclusion
In the conclusions they will restate their thesis sentences as well as their 3 points. This will be done in 2-3 sentences.
Day 6: Wednesday March 25th- Catch Up/Rough Draft
Use this day to finish anything not finished from the previous days and complete your rough draft.
Day 7: Thursday March 26th-Edit
Read your paper to a friend or parent and correct any mistakes you have discovered.
Day 8: Friday March 27th- Final
Read your paper one last time and check for any mistakes. Turn in your FINAL paper to Google Classroom.
